Deer Creek Coffee House Concert: CARY COOPER

9/22/2012 7:30 PM

Grace Memorial Episcopal Church - 1022 Main St. Darlington, MD 21034

September’s Performer –Cary Cooper

The 2004 winner of the Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk competition and a finalist in several other festival songwriting competitions, Cary Cooper eloquently says the things we all think, but rarely have the courage to say: and she does so within the framework of hauntingly beautiful melodies and hip grooves.

Cary picked up the uke in 2010 and it blew open the door to a new batch of songs that are featured on her new CD, “Pink Umbrella”. These songs, light and whimsical in nature, reflect what makes Cary stand out in a crowd. She draws you in with her charm then hits you over the head with songs like “Suzanne, about a 43 year old woman who takes reprieve from the drudgeries of her life to join the circus, and “Jimmy Stewart”, about the differences in real life love and love shown in old movies.

“Cary is the Anne Lamott or Barbara Kingsolver of songwriting…except she can get to the heart of things in 3 minutes instead of 200 pages.” Jessica Ann Baron, GITC (Guitar in the Classroom)
